What do dental implants cost in the UK?
Implant prices vary widely between clinics and regions. Here's what's known for certain, and what decides the price you'll be quoted.
In the UK, the NHS says implants are usually only available privately, except in rare cases such as for people who cannot wear dentures after mouth cancer or an accident. Private prices vary with the number of implants, the brand, the crown or bridge material, any bone grafting, and the clinic. The NHS-funded alternatives, such as dentures and bridges, are Band 3 treatments, currently £332.10 in England.
Implants and the NHS
The NHS says implants are usually only available privately and are expensive. Rarely, they are available on the NHS for patients who cannot wear dentures for reasons such as mouth cancer or an accident.
The NHS-funded ways to replace teeth, such as dentures and bridges, are Band 3 treatments. In England, Band 3 currently costs £332.10 (checked October 2026). Charges are different in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Six things that decide a private price
- How many implants you need.
- The implant brand and system. See implant brands.
- The crown, bridge or teeth on top, and their material. See materials.
- Extra procedures, such as extractions, bone grafts or sinus lifts.
- Scans and temporary teeth, which may or may not be included.
- The clinic and region.
What a quote should include
- a written, itemised plan based on your own X-ray or scan
- the implant brand and system, and the number of implants
- the abutment and crown or bridge, with materials
- any bone graft, priced or clearly excluded
- the guarantee: what it covers and for how long
Treatment abroad
Many UK patients look abroad because of cost. The NHS advises factoring in exchange rates, the chance of a longer stay and the cost of return trips, and notes that you cannot get reimbursement for dental treatment abroad. The Oral Health Foundation recommends speaking to your own dentist first. Our sister guide covers implant costs in Turkey in detail.

Common questions
Why don't you list private implant prices?
Prices vary too much between clinics and depend on your mouth, and we won't publish figures we can't source. The fairest comparison is written quotes for the same plan.
Is it cheaper abroad?
Often the headline price is lower. Add travel for usually two trips, accommodation and insurance, and check what aftercare is included. The NHS says you can't claim back the cost of dental treatment abroad.
Can I pay in instalments?
Many UK private practices offer payment plans. Ask about the total cost including any interest.
